A key ingredient to the tight sound and finesse of the group is bassist Scot Mulligan.
Scot, in addition to being a very accomplished bassist, is also a formidable saxophonist
and Luthier; he is also a handcrafter of high accuracy custom bass guitars, known
affectionately by their owners as "Mulligan Basses".

Scot moved to Kingston in the early 90's to study at
Queen's University. He eventually ended up staying
there, buying an old church twenty minutes out of town
and converting it into his very own flat...

Scot was introduced to the Caravan by a mutual
acquaintance as 'the perfect musician' for that style of
music due to his high level of proficiency with both the
sax and 6-string bass.. Pretty accurate indeed. While
most 16 year-olds were listening to pop and rock, Scot
found excitement in Jazz and Classical music, and later
on 'motown' and funk.

Scot offers a definite tinge of sophistication in the
live show. Both in his playing and his presence. Often,
it appears like the bass instrument is incidental to him,
and that it just grew there. His melodic bass-lines and
grumbling tone give the Mystic Caravan a definite edge
and in turn helps to make every live performance sound
like a recording. And just when you thought he'd done
it all, he pulls out the saxophone!!

Besides playing with The Mystic Caravan, Scot has
found time to be active in the Kingston music scene.
This fertile scene has given him the opportunity to
jam live with The Tragically Hip, Dan Ackroyd,
Bill Murray, Blue Rodeo and Michelle Wright.
